For the right perspective, we need sufficient vitamin A. Not without reason it is referred to as the vision vitamin. It is likely that the vitamin A deficiency, the world’s most common vitamin deficiency disease, which may lead to impaired vision and blindness in the worst case.

Vitamin A is important in the process of seeing especially for the twilight and night vision and has, among other things against night blindness. It is not only an important component of the light-sensitive visual purple of the retina, but also ensures healthy skin and mucous membranes. A slight deficiency in vitamin A can be in night blindness, brittle nails, dry skin show, skin rashes, blurred vision and susceptibility to infection.

Vitamin A is supplied to the organism either with the food or formed from the information contained in green plants and fruits beta-carotene. As to the family of fat-soluble vitamins include, it should preferably be taken with fat. We distinguish between Vitamin A1 (retinol) and Vitamin A2 (called in the jargon dehydroretinol 3). Vitamin A is found in foods of animal origin, such as cod liver oil, fish, liver, milk, butter, cheese or eggs . Even carrots, egg yolks, corn salad, fennel, spinach, pumpkin , papaya, cabbage, broccoli, cantaloupe, tomatoes, avocados, apricots, lettuce, asparagus , peas, green beans and peaches contain lots of vitamin A.

The average daily requirement of vitamin A is an adult person to person and depends on the age and circumstances as, in general we can say that the demand is about 0.8 mg to 1. An increased need during pregnancy, lactation, and in smokers with regular alcohol consumption. Beware of overdose! Then come loss of appetite, vomiting, dizziness, irritability, dry skin and painful swelling of the bone. An overdose can occur only when taking active vitamin A.

Tips for a healthy diet:

¤ Enjoy an occasional glass of freshly squeezed carrot juice with a drop or two of high quality wheat germ oil.

¤ Create menus and colorful salads.

¤ Eat cooked to be crunchy carrots and gently, then since these more beta carotene than in its raw state and the nutrients absorbed by the body better.
