After a certain age, it is unpleasant to discover unsightly pigmentation on the hands or face. Care exist to mitigate them.

The “liver spots”: this is the real name of what is called, wrongly, age spots. Wrongly, because age is not there for nothing, but rather how you played with the sun in your life. It is better to call them “sunspots”. Like white hair, they can take, or seek ways to make them disappear.

Brown spots age spots?

Because these spots appear after a certain age, and we always used to see on the elderly, they are associated with wrinkles and white hair as a sign of aging. It is true that these are the years that accentuate the phenomenon. These brown spots are due to an uneven concentration of melanin, this melanin that is desperately looking aesthetics when, lying on the beach, a few years ago, we have neglected the use of protective sunscreen. Of course, these are the areas most exposed to the sun (and looks) hands, face, neck – which are the first victims of brown spots. Do not confuse these sunspots, which are rare before forty years, and pigmentation of hormonal origin, that pregnant women are familiar, and which are more opaque, especially on the forehead and around the face. The “mask of pregnancy” or chloasma, it is accentuated by the sun too, usually fades by itself within a few months after delivery.

Dermatological treatments of lentigines

At different levels of pigmentation, and depending on the dose of affects that mean to the person, dermatologists use treatments of different levels, from simple cream to a small surgery. All treatments are not very pleasant and requires patience and sometimes (much) pain. Therefore, initially, to assess on a personal level how embarrassed these spots provide the daily well-being and self-image; all depends on their localization: hands or faces.

Exfoliation of the skin

By cryotherapy: dry ice or liquid nitrogen that doctors use for wart, freeze the cells of the skin and destroy the melanin. For one, if it (too) love the sun, hate the cold! We must wait a week to see the effects.
By chemical peeling: under local anesthesia, an acid is applied to the skin. The skin is “destroyed”, allowing a reconstruction of new cells and young, with no “memory”. This technique is used to treat wrinkles, but also to repair acne scars or burns. A healing phase is necessary because the skin is “hurt” necessarily.
By the laser burns radical pigmented areas: one session is often sufficient. This treatment causes unpleasant consequences, such as after injury, with crusts unsightly and fragile. It is imperative not to expose these areas to the sun until the end of healing.

Pulsed light photorejuvenation

It blurs the spots by heating the dermis. It is also used to treat wrinkles. It penetrates into the deeper layers of the dermis and acts on the pigments but also on collagen stimulation. Increasingly used for anti-aging treatments, its effects are longer, however, one to three months are needed to see the effects. If all these treatments “serious” does not tempt you, then you have to assume these new brands of your age with serenity, age spots or blotches of wisdom? Or try lemon juice, a remedy grandmother still used by many women today. On one condition: Never apply lemon day before going to the sun: the citrus juice is highly photosensitizing, and you could worsen your case. Anyway, today, prevent that marks “old age” and protect your skin from the sun.
